3 Items to Include on Your Autumnal Cheese Board

The first day of October kicks off the holiday season with plenty of festive celebrations coming up. As you prepare to host loved ones, it can be overwhelming trying to plan a menu for any given event. The best way to simplify hors d’oeuvres is by making a big cheese board; and, you can dazzle guests by making it seasonal with a few fun touches that set it apart from charcuteries at any other time of the year.

1) Decorate the Board With Mini Pumpkins or Gourds
The first rule of making charcuterie boards is to lay down the largest elements first. So, start building your board by placing a mini pumpkin or a couple of small gourds around the surface. These will be the focal points that help you decide where to lay out the cheeses, dried fruits, crackers, and nuts.

They’re the perfect autumnal touch. Plus, they’ll keep your board looking nice even as your guests pick away at the other ingredients on the board. You can also choose a fall-inspired board to enhance the seasonal flair.

2) Choose Seasonal Spreads to Amp Up Your Cheeses
You don’t have to stray from your most beloved types of cheeses to change up the flavour profile of your cheese board. You can stick with fan-favourites like cheddar, goat cheese, and brie by simply adding a delicious spread that reflects the flavours of the season.

Pour some pumpkin butter over warm brie for a mouthwatering salty and sweet combination. You can also drizzle some maple jam on top of a log of goat cheese that guests can easily dip a cracker into. Or, perfectly pair the tastes of cheddar and apple by offering an apple butter in a ramekin next to your cheese that guests can spread with decorative knives.

3) Offer Fall-Themed Crackers
Plenty of stores offer seasonal crackers that feature pumpkin, maple, and berry flavours. A pumpkin-cranberry cracker is a wonderful artisanal option, and a cinnamon-pecan flatbread pairs well with subtle soft cheeses.

If you’d rather let the cheeses and spreads do the talking, choose mild-flavoured crackers that are in fall shapes like maple leaves, apples, or pumpkins.

Changing how you serve and entertain guests is one of the great joys of this time of year. So, try one or all of these fun fall cheese board ideas to keep hosting entertaining. You may even inspire a guest or two to get creative with their own grazing boards.
