Try These 3 DIY Pizza Recipes for National Pizza Day

Everyone loves pizza, that’s why National Pizza Day is arguably one of the best minor holidays. Celebrate National Pizza Day this year with some delicious homemade pizzas. Here are three recipes to try out.

All of these recipes can be made on homemade dough or store-bought dough. Follow cooking instructions based on the dough recipe or packaging.

Mega Meat Lovers
For this pizza, you will need:

  • Sausage
  • Pepperoni
  • Bacon
  • Ham
  • Cheese
  • Red sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • Red chili flakes (optional)

Start by cooking your sausage, and bacon and spreading a thin layer of red sauce onto your pizza dough. Keep the sauce thin because you’ll be loading it up with meat and you don’t want your pizza to be too wet for the weight. Spread out an even layer of pepperoni followed by the rest of the meats. Top with a generous layer of cheese and bake. Top with chili flakes and enjoy!

Margherita Pizza
For this pizza you will need:

  • Fresh basil
  • Fresh mozzarella
  • Fresh tomato
  • Red sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • Parmigiano-Reggiano (optional)

For a crispy crust (optional)

  • Olive oil
  • Roasted garlic

If you want an extra crispy, mix together roasted garlic and olive oil and brush it lightly over the top of your pizza dough. Next, spread a thin layer of your red sauce onto your dough. Then top with fresh mozzarella and fresh tomatoes sliced thinly. Bake and top with fresh basil and Parmigiano-Reggiano.

Perfect Chicken Pesto
For this pizza, you will need:

  • Pesto (homemade or store-bought)
  • Chicken
  • Grilled artichoke hearts
  • Mushrooms
  • Red onion
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Feta cheese
  • Balsalmic vinegar (optional)

Start by seasoning and grilling your chicken. Thinly slice your mushrooms and red onion and separate your artichoke hearts into smaller pieces. Half or quarter your tomatoes and dice your chicken. Add a layer of pesto to your dough and add your ingredients making sure to spread them evenly. Top with feta cheese and bake. Once cooked drizzle lightly with balsamic vinegar and enjoy!
